New Floors Change Everything
Nothing transforms the feel of a home faster than new flooring. At Volsen Custom Works, we install hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, and engineered flooring with the precision and care that makes the difference between a floor that looks good on day one and a floor that still looks good five years from now.
Whether you're replacing worn-out carpet in a single room or running new flooring through the entire main level, Aaron and James manage every step — subfloor prep, leveling, transitions, trim, and final detail work. As a design-build team, we make sure the material, the layout, and the installation all work together.
Homeowners across Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Puyallup, University Place, and the greater Western Washington area trust Volsen Custom Works to deliver flooring that's installed right and built to last.
Flooring FAQ
Common questions about flooring installation with Volsen Custom Works.
We install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), porcelain and ceramic tile, natural stone, and laminate. Each material has different strengths depending on the room, traffic level, and your budget — we'll help you pick the right one.
A single room can often be done in a day or two. Full-home installations typically take 3 to 7 days depending on square footage, material type, and how much subfloor prep is needed. Tile and hardwood take longer than LVP or laminate due to cure times and finishing. We'll give you a clear timeline before we start.
Cost depends on the material, total square footage, subfloor condition, and any demo or prep work involved. Rather than quoting a generic per-square-foot range, we provide a detailed estimate after seeing your space so you know exactly what to expect — no hidden fees.
For wet areas, luxury vinyl plank and tile are the top choices. LVP is waterproof, comfortable underfoot, and comes in realistic wood-look finishes. Tile is extremely durable and works well with radiant heat. Solid hardwood isn't recommended for bathrooms due to moisture — we'll steer you toward what actually holds up.
Yes. We handle full tear-out and disposal of existing flooring — carpet, tile, vinyl, laminate, whatever's there. We also take care of any subfloor repairs, leveling, or moisture mitigation needed before the new material goes down.
The subfloor is everything. If it's not level, dry, and structurally sound, the new flooring will eventually crack, gap, squeak, or fail. We test moisture levels, repair damaged areas, and level the surface before any material goes down. It's the step a lot of contractors skip — and it's the reason their floors don't last.
In some cases, yes. LVP and laminate can often go over existing hard surfaces if they're flat and in good shape. But it's not always the right call — adding height can affect doors, transitions, and appliances. We'll evaluate what you have and give you an honest recommendation on whether to overlay or tear out.
Yes. Clean transitions between different flooring types — like hardwood to tile, or LVP to carpet — are one of the details that separate a professional install from a DIY job. We use proper transition strips, thresholds, and reducer profiles so everything looks intentional and sits flush.
